Mac OpenTransport/Remote Access PPP Initial Configuration

OPEN TRANSPORT/REMOTE ACCESS PPP Instructions

Open the PPP/Remote Access Control Panel. (Go to the Apple icon in the upper left-hand corner of the screen, then to the control panels folder, and select PPP/Remote Access. If PPP/Remote Access is not there, then you do not have OT/Remote Access PPP installed.)

a. Type all setup instructions being very careful not to add any extra spaces or unnecessary characters. All setups should be typed in lower case letters.

b. Type your login name in the box to the right of "Name." The login name must be typed in lower case letters, and does not include the @bluemoon.net part.

c. Next to "Password," carefully type your password. Passwords are case sensitive, and need to be typed exactly as you chose it.

d. If you want the software to remember your password, then put a check next to "Save Password." If this is not checked, then the dialer will prompt you for the password each time you connect.

e. Next to "Number," type in 5176000.


Click the Options button

a. Set the "Redial" option to "Redial main number only."

b. Set it to redial 10 times.

c. Set it to wait 5 seconds between each try.


Click the Connection tab.

a. Put a check next to "Flash icon in menu bar while connected." (choose this ONLY if you want the connection to be flashing while it is active)

b. Make sure that no other options have checks next to them.


Click the Protocol tab.

a. Put a check next to "Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications."

b. Put a check next to "Allow error correction and compression in modem."

c. Put a check next to "Use TCP header compression."

d. Make sure that "Connect to command-line host" is not checked.

Click OK to close that screen.

Close the PPP/Remote Access Control Panel. If it prompts you to save the changes, click "Save."


Open the Modem Control Panel. (Go to the Apple icon in the upper left-hand corner of the screen, then to the control panels folder, and select Modem.)

a. On "Connect via," select the Modem Port. If you are on a laptop or use the printer port, select the appropriate one for your modem.

b. In the Modem Setup, scroll through the pull-down menu until you find the modem that you use. If your modem is not listed, choose one made by the same manufacturer. If the manufacturer is not listed, then choose "Hayes Optima 288." If you are able to connect, and would like a more recent script for your modem, you can find many of them online at http://www.56k.com.

c. Set your sound to be on.

d. Set dialing for Tone.

e. Do not put a check next to "Ignore dial tone."

f. When you are finished, close the control panel. Your computer will prompt you to save the changes. Click "Save."


Open the TCP/IP Control Panel. (Go to the Apple icon in the upper left-hand corner of the screen, then to the control panels folder, and select TCP/IP.)

Go to the Edit menu, and choose "User Mode."

a.Set it on advanced

b.Click OK and the TCP/IP Control Panel will return, showing more options.


Configure the TCP/IP control panel as follows.

a. Set "Connect via" to "PPP"

b. Set "Configure" to "Using PPP Server"

c. In the Name server addr: box, type in the DNS addresses.

d. 64.200.84.10 and 64.200.84.7

e. In the box below Starting domain name, type bluemoon.net

f. In Additional Search domains, type: bluemoon.net

g. Leave the Ending domain name blank.

h. Click the Options button.

1. Select "Active"
2. Put a check in front of "Load only when needed"
3. Click OK

a. Close the TCP/IP Control Panel. Your computer will prompt you to save the changes. Click "Save."


Restart the computer. (Go to the special menu and choose "Restart.") To connect, open Netscape Navigator and the software will automatically dial.


When you are finished, close your connection by opening the PPP/Remote Access Control Panel and clicking the "Disconnect" button.

Click OK to go back to the Mac TCP/IP Programs Configuration page.
